Armenia open to discuss Azerbaijani gas purchases
MP from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party and deputy head of the parliamentary Economic Commission Babken Tunyan has said that the issue of purchasing Azerbaijani gas can be discussed if Baku expresses interest.
During the Second Pan-Armenian Summit, Pashinyan did not rule out the possibility of Armenia’s importing gas from Azerbaijan, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
"Whether we will buy gas from Azerbaijan is more of a future consideration and remains purely theoretical. However, if such a situation arises when we can establish trade relations with Azerbaijan and when we need any resources, we should evaluate who offers a cheaper and higher-quality product. If Azerbaijan can provide such a product, we would consider it, if it aligns with Armenia's interests. At the same time, we must maintain our principle of diversification and alternative sources," Tunyan stated.
He also noted that Armenia primarily purchases gas from Russia and Iran, and acquiring gas from a third source would enhance the country's energy independence and security.
