Azerbaijan detains 65 individuals for border violations
The State Border Service of Azerbaijan intensified efforts this October to secure the nation's borders and combat smuggling, illegal migration, and drug trafficking. During this period, a total of 65 individuals were apprehended for violating state border regulations.
Among those detained were 22 citizens from Pakistan, 22 from Afghanistan, 13 from Azerbaijan, and 3 from Algeria. Additional detainees included individuals from Iran, Morocco, Bangladesh, Türkiye, and Syria, Caliber.Az reports.
In efforts to combat illegal migration, authorities apprehended 14 individuals attempting to cross the border using forged passports, visas, and identity documents.
Furthermore, 953 individuals were detained for breaching border regime rules, with appropriate measures taken against each.
As part of its anti-smuggling initiatives, the Border Service seized contraband valued at approximately 3.89 million manats (nearly $2,3 million), which included a range of medications, tobacco products, and alcoholic beverages.
