Azerbaijan welcomes Belarus prime minister, strengthening trade, economic relations PHOTO

06 May 2025 13:07

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has met with Prime Minister of Belarus Alexander Turchin, emphasizing the strong partnership between the two nations and discussing avenues for expanding economic cooperation.

During the talks, President Aliyev highlighted the strong foundations of Azerbaijan-Belarus relations, built on friendship and confidence, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The president noted that Prime Minister Turchin’s decision to include Azerbaijan among his first official visits since assuming office reflected the depth of bilateral ties and the commitment to further strengthening them.

The discussion focused extensively on bolstering economic cooperation. President Aliyev emphasized the importance of enhancing trade and economic relations, noting in particular the ongoing collaboration in the automotive sector. The sides highlighted the significance of the production of Belarusian automotive equipment at the Ganja Automobile Plant, as well as the establishment of service centres across Azerbaijan to support its maintenance.

Further avenues for industrial cooperation were explored, including joint ventures in the production of lift equipment, household appliances, and agricultural goods—particularly livestock and poultry products. These initiatives, they noted, would contribute to the diversification of Azerbaijan’s industrial base and the deepening of bilateral economic ties.

The parties also hailed the involvement of Belarusian companies in the reconstruction and development of territories in Azerbaijan that were liberated from occupation. Prime Minister Turchin affirmed his intention to visit these regions personally to assess the progress and explore further opportunities for collaboration on the ground.

Urban development featured prominently in the dialogue, with both sides recognizing the value of exchanging expertise in this area. President Aliyev announced that Azerbaijan will host the World Urban Forum in 2026 and extended an invitation to Belarus to take an active role in the event.
