Belarus neutralises over 20,000 explosive devices in 2025 photo
Belarusian engineering troops neutralised more than 20,000 explosive devices in 2025 after surveying over 600 hectares of land across the country, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Belarus.
The figures were provided by Colonel Viktor Vyrvinsky, head of the engineering troops of the Armed Forces and chief of the Engineering Troops Directorate of the General Staff, as reported by Belarusian state media. He said that demining operations are carried out on a planned basis and help return cleared areas to agricultural and other economic use. At the same time, sappers regularly respond to urgent call-outs when ammunition left from previous wars is discovered.
In addition to demining activities, engineering units in 2025 built and camouflaged more than 600 shelters and trenches, prepared over 70 kilometres of routes for troop movements, and, together with pontoon and bridge units, established around 20 crossings.
Vyrvinsky also emphasised the growing use of modern technologies within the engineering troops. Unmanned aerial and ground systems are being widely deployed, including for demining tasks and the installation of engineering obstacles.
Last year, the troops received more than 300 new pieces of equipment, mainly produced domestically, and deliveries of additional new weapons and equipment are expected to continue in 2026.
