Biden, Macron support use of profits from Russian assets
Washington and Paris support efforts within the EU and G7 to use profits from frozen Russian assets to help Kiev, according to a joint statement following a meeting between US and French Presidents Joe Biden and Emmanuel Macron.
"The presidents are committed to supporting efforts within the EU and G7 to use profits from frozen Russian sovereign assets to benefit Ukraine," Interfax reports, citing a statement, published on the White House website on June 8.
It notes that the funds should be used "in accordance with international law and the legal systems of both countries."
Earlier, it was reported that the United States and its allies continue to consider options for using frozen assets of the Russian Federation to help Ukraine. This issue will be one of the main ones at the G7 summit to be held in Italy on June 13-15.
At the same time, according to Politico, Macron was the only G7 leader who does not agree to the US initiative to use blocked Russian assets.
