Decolonization mirrors collapse of Western colonial policies – Ethiopian rep

Decolonization emblematizes the fight against injustice and the collapse of Western colonial policies.

The head of an Ethiopian non-governmental organization, Gebron Fekadu Gebre, told the Baku-held international conference “Neo-colonialism: Violation of human rights and injustice,” Report says.

“Europe must acknowledge the damage its colonial policies have triggered to health care and health workers in the countries they had conquered. I consider it necessary to attract more and more local personnel to work in the healthcare sector. France has created many problems for other nations. Even though Ethiopia was not a French colony, its policies had a certain negative impact on our country, too,” Gebre added.

Gebre noted that France, like other colonialists, has always shown interest in the African region. Ethiopia sought to maintain sovereignty in the face of these challenges, she added.

The head of the NGO emphasised that on the issue of decolonization, it is necessary, in particular, to take into account the historical events that took place in the past.

“Conditions must be created for a compromise that takes into account the interests of all parties.”
