Drone strikes hit Amazon data centres in UAE, Bahrain, operations paused
American technology giant Amazon has reported direct hits on two of its data centres in the United Arab Emirates and one facility in Bahrain, rendering the facilities inoperable.
The attacks come amid the military confrontation in the Middle East that has been underway since February 28, following the US-Israeli joint airstrikes on Iran, and subsequent strike exchanges.
"In the UAE, two of our facilities were directly struck, while in Bahrain, a drone strike in close proximity to one of our facilities caused physical impacts to our infrastructure,” CNBC quotes Amazon as saying.
“These strikes have caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and in some cases required fire suppression activities that resulted in additional water damage,” the tech giant added.
Amazon did not provide details on casualties but emphasised that it is working closely with local authorities, prioritising employee safety throughout the recovery process.
