The Odyssey set to surpass Oppenheimer at US box office in just 13 days

30 July 2026 01:12

Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is expected to surpass the domestic box office earnings of his Academy Award-winning 2023 film Oppenheimer on its 13th day in cinemas, according to industry estimates, marking another milestone in the director's latest blockbuster.

The film earned $14.7 million on its second Monday, with Tuesday projected to bring in more than $16 million, pushing its North American total to approximately $320.1 million, according to Deadline.

By the end of July 29, The Odyssey is forecast to exceed $330 million at the domestic box office, overtaking Oppenheimer, which finished its theatrical run with just over $330 million in North America after 595 days.

The milestone will make The Odyssey Nolan's third highest-grossing film at the domestic box office, behind The Dark Knight, which earned $534.9 million, and The Dark Knight Rises, which grossed $448.1 million.

The film is also expected to remain a strong performer despite the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Industry projections suggest The Odyssey could see a third-weekend decline of no more than 50%, with weekend earnings estimated at around $45 million.

The strong performance has also set a career milestone for its star, Matt Damon, making The Odyssey the highest-grossing domestic film in which he has played the leading role.
