EU launches investigation against X for violating prohibited content norms

The European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton has said that the European Commission (EC) has launched a formal investigation against the social network X (formerly Twitter) on charges of violating European norms on the removal of prohibited content, transparency and the fight against fake information.

The procedure was launched on December 18, Breton wrote on his X page.

This is the first investigation under the European Digital Services Act, which among other things monitors material in messengers and social networks. According to its norms, X can receive a fine of up to 6 per cent of all revenues, and if it refuses to comply with the EC's regulations, the social network can be blocked in the European Union.
