08 July 2024 13:48

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has expressed Azerbaijan's expectations following the election of Iran's new president, emphasising the desire for further advancement in bilateral relations.

"After Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian on his election as president of Iran, we are keen on progressing with the agreed projects between Azerbaijan and Iran," Bayramov added, Caliber.Az reports citing the local media.

Azerbaijan and Iran share a relationship shaped by historical, cultural, economic, and geopolitical factors. Geographically, Azerbaijan and Iran are neighbours in the South Caucasus and the broader Caspian Sea region, with significant cultural ties.

Economically, Azerbaijan and Iran engage in trade and energy cooperation, particularly in the oil and gas sectors. Iran provides a transit route for Azerbaijani goods heading to global markets, while Azerbaijan's energy resources have the potential to benefit Iran's energy security and economic development.

Overall, Azerbaijan and Iran navigate a relationship characterised by economic cooperation, cultural ties and efforts to manage regional stability in the South Caucasus and Caspian Sea region. Diplomatic efforts continue to play a crucial role in maintaining constructive relations between these neighbouring countries.
