Azerbaijan's deputy FM declares bright future for Organisation of Turkic States
Elnur Mammadov, Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister, has affirmed confidence that the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS) will continue to grow in strength.
Highlighting the significance of the Nakhchivan agreement signed 15 years ago, Mammadov described it as a pivotal moment in the history of Turkic nations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He highlighted the productive cooperation among OTS member states across various areas, including politics, economics, and trade.
The Organization of Turkic States, initially known as the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council), was established in 2009 as an intergovernmental organization. Its primary objective is to foster comprehensive cooperation among Turkic States.
The founding member states—Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye—were later joined by Uzbekistan as a full member during the 7th Summit in Baku in October 2019. Hungary attained observer status at the 6th Summit in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic, in September 2018.
In the 8th Summit held in November 2021, Turkmenistan joined, in November 2022, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and in 2023 the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) became Observer Members of the Organization.
The principal organs of the Organization are the Council of Heads of State, the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Elders, the Senior Officials Committee and the Secretariat.
