EAPCA condemns Belgian, Dutch anti-Azerbaijan parliamentary resolutions

The Council of Euro-Atlantic Partnership of Azerbaijanis (EAPCA) has strongly condemned and expressed firm protest over anti-Azerbaijan resolutions adopted on April 16 by the parliaments of Belgium and the Netherlands, in a statement issued by the organisation and signed by its Secretary-General Sahil Gasimov.

The documents emphasise that the parliaments of Belgium and the Netherlands should adhere to the principles of objectivity, legal justification, and a balanced approach when addressing international issues, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

The statement notes that ignoring steps taken by Azerbaijan together with Armenia to ensure peace and stability in the South Caucasus demonstrates the biased nature of the adopted resolutions and does not correspond to the spirit of constructive cooperation.

“Such actions are unacceptable, as they increase tensions in the region and pose a serious threat to peace and stability. Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated its commitment to the principles of good neighbourliness and mutual respect,” it reads.

EAPCA called on the parliaments of both countries to reconsider their positions and demonstrate a fairer and more balanced approach.

During a session of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Dutch House of Representatives, Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen informed lawmakers that the government opposed the resolution.

Following the adoption of the resolutions in the Belgian and Dutch parliaments, the ambassadors of both countries in Baku were summoned to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, where they were issued a strong protest.
