A high-level meeting in Baku brought together Azerbaijani parliamentary officials and a Latvian delegation led by President Edgars Rinkēvičs, focusing on strengthening interparliamentary cooperation, expanding political dialogue, and reinforcing bilateral and EU-Azerbaijan relations.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova emphasized the importance of high-level visits and regular political dialogue in the development of bilateral relations, particularly reciprocal visits by presidents, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

She also highlighted the close interparliamentary cooperation between Baku and Riga, noting the significant role of reciprocal visits and parliamentary friendship groups in strengthening these ties.

During the meeting, Gafarova provided detailed information to the Latvian president on the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the history of Azerbaijan’s independence and parliamentarism, as well as the structure and activities of the Milli Majlis.

Edgars Rinkēvičs, in turn, spoke about his earlier meetings and talks with President Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Baku. He stressed that Azerbaijan is an important strategic partner both for Latvia and for the European Union.
