French people advised: stop taking shower, wash "certain areas"
In France, where there is a high level of a water shortage caused by drought, experts suggest that instead of washing the whole body once a day, it will be enough to wash certain areas.
According to a study by the Institute of Public Research (IFOP), 76 per cent of French people take a full shower at least once a day, while it stands at 71 per cent across Europe, TRT Haber informs.
Experts suggest that instead of washing every day, it will be enough to wash some parts of the body daily when necessary, such as after the toilet.
According to the report of BFMTV, which applied to the meetings of dermatologists based on the research, although the French seems to have made progress in the field of hygiene with COVID-19, they still have not completely resolved the issue of cleanliness.
While the human skin acts as a shield against external factors such as fine particles, pollution, and ultraviolet rays, the erosion of the hydrolipidic layer of the skin, which consists of water and oil, leads to its weakening against bacteria.
Dermatologist Laurence Netter, stating that it is not necessary to wash every day, pointed out that it will be enough to wash some areas that contain extra bacteria, such as between the fingers, which require daily cleaning.
Another dermatologist, Marie Jourdan, pointed out that although the lack of hygiene leads to the risk of infection, excessive skin cleaning disturbs the balance of the skin, irritates the skin and causes eczema.
Due to the drought in France, government officials and media organizations often call on the public to be economical in the use of energy and water.
