German president slams incident with vice-chancellor on ferry
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has condemned the attempt of farmers to block the arrival of the ferry, which was carrying the country's Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck.
"Many people in our country, including me, were shocked by the way the minister was intimidated by an aggressive crowd during a private trip and was forced to be removed to a safe place after threats. We cannot accept this," Steinmeier told the Bild newspaper.
Before that, it was reported that the German prosecutor's office investigated the attempt of farmers to block the arrival of the ferry, which was carrying the country's Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck.
Habeck was returning from a vacation in the north of the country in early January, and more than 100 farmers were waiting for him at the Schlützil pier, displeased with the authorities' plans to cancel subsidies. Some of the protesters tried to break into the ferry, and the police used gas against them.
