Lebanon reaffirms commitment to UN resolution 1701 Amid escalating tensions with Israel
At a UN Security Council meeting on October 2, Lebanon's Chargé d'Affaires Al-Sayyid Hadi Hashim asserted the Lebanese government's readiness to implement Resolution 1701, which mandates the withdrawal of Hezbollah forces from the Israeli border.
Hashim emphasized that both the Lebanese people and their government are firmly against war and are committed to deploying the Lebanese army in the south, with the assistance of UNIFIL, the United Nations peacekeeping force, Caliber.Az reports via Israeli media.
He criticized Israel’s claims of conducting limited military operations, calling them misleading, and cited the recent attack on Ain al-Delb as evidence of Israel's aggression, which resulted in the deaths of 71 civilians, including many women and children.
Hashim condemned the ongoing violence, describing it as "unprecedented killing, displacement, and destruction" that cannot be overlooked.
“Lebanon today is caught between the hammer of the Israeli destruction machine and the ambitions of some in the region,” he stated, affirming that the Lebanese people deserve a life free from conflict.
