Trump dismisses election concerns despite ongoing Iran strikes

25 July 2026 13:08

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday, July 24, dismissed concerns that the ongoing conflict with Iran — now in its 13th consecutive day of strikes — could undermine Republican prospects in the upcoming midterm elections.

“Despite what everybody says about the election, I’m not in a hurry,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “We have to do it right. Elections take care of themselves.”

Midterm elections for the U.S. Congress are scheduled for November, with polling indicating that Republicans risk losing control of at least one chamber. U.S. media have noted that the continuing conflict with Iran, and its broader consequences, could erode support among parts of the electorate.

Trump also said he has not yet decided whether to escalate military action against Iran.

“No,” he replied at the White House when asked by a journalist if he had made such a decision.

At the same time, the president warned that U.S. armed forces remain prepared should more forceful strikes become necessary.

Separately, Bloomberg reported that the administration is encountering difficulties in securing funding for the military campaign. According to the publication, congressional approval of an increase in the defence budget has effectively stalled, prompting the administration to seek alternative sources of financing.
