US military aircraft C-17 bound for Middle East reverses course

25 July 2026 14:47

A U.S. military transport aircraft en route from Germany to the Middle East turned back mid-flight after reporting radio communication problems, TASS reported on July 25, citing a source in European air traffic control services.

The aircraft, identified as a Boeing C-17A Globemaster III, departed from Ramstein Air Base in Germany but reversed course while flying over the Mediterranean Sea.

“A U.S.-owned Boeing C-17A Globemaster III aircraft departed from Ramstein Air Base in Germany heading toward the Middle East, but during the flight reported problems with radio communication and turned back,” the source said.

It remains unclear whether the aircraft is returning to Ramstein or will divert to another airfield within NATO territory.

According to the report, the aircraft was manufactured in 1997 and has been in service for approximately 29 years.
