Xi set for Kyrgyzstan trip as SCO summit approaches

Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 1 and attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev said during talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The meeting between the two foreign ministers is taking place in Cholpon-Ata, where preparations for Xi’s visit and the upcoming summit are a central focus.

“There are no contradictions or political disagreements between our states. The implementation of annual exchanges of visits, mutual visits at the highest and high levels has become a good tradition, and the regular political dialogue between us is of a highly trusting nature,” Kulubaev said.

He added that bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and China continue to develop on the basis of mutual respect, equality, and consideration of both sides’ interests.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, bringing together leaders of member states, is scheduled to take place in Kyrgyzstan over the same dates as Xi’s visit.
