More victims found as Venezuela earthquake death toll keeps rising

The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 5,398, National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced.

Over the past 24 hours, the number of fatalities increased by 52, Caliber.Az reports.

The number of people injured in the disaster remains unchanged at 16,740, a figure that has not increased since July 5. According to authorities, 17,907 residents remain homeless.

The number of people staying in temporary shelters rose from 23,122 to 23,335 over the past day. A total of 107 camps have been established to accommodate those affected by the disaster.

The number of people who have received medical assistance has also increased, rising from 39,567 to 44,298 in the last 24 hours.

On the evening of June 24, two earthquakes measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 struck off Venezuela’s coast less than a minute apart. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), they were the strongest earthquakes recorded in the country since 1900.
