"Heavy impression": Armenian revanchists upset by Russian FM's visit to Azerbaijan Something went wrong…

26 June 2022 11:20

Armenian jingoistic and revanchists of all stripes mourn and cry. The reason is [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov's visit to Baku and the statements made in this regard. But this time, the Armenian oppositionists obviously went too far in their moaning, outraged by the "betrayal" of the Russian foreign minister, they say, how could he even say such a thing...

In fact, there is nothing unusual about Armenians chewing over the outcomes of Russian officials' visits to Azerbaijan. And they express indignation when hearing something out of the morals of the eternally dissatisfied Armenians. However, Lavrov, according to the tacit Yerevan classification, is quite a pro-Armenian player, even excluding his origin. He, as the foreign lobby believes, thinks quite "Armenian". Baku, admittedly, has never been too much confident in Lavrov with his approach 'both ours and yours", he even at times spoke as if he was authorised to represent only the interests of the Armenian state.

However, this time, according to the Armenians, something went wrong. The network is full of dissatisfied remarks from Yerevan politicians and political scientists. Let's focus on the most noticeable and "woeful".

Thus, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan, with a helpless expression on his face, addressed the statements and their accents voiced in Baku by Lavrov.

According to him, "the press conference of Lavrov - Bayramov made a heavy impression." After quite traditional, a mantra, accusations against the "capitulator selling the interests of Armenia", Ashotyan draws some gloomy results. The whole point of his conclusions is that we must recall Lavrov's earlier statements and once again reproach him for distorting "principles".

For him, it is difficult to cope with the fact that, according to the Russian foreign minister, the situation changed after the war and the "documents" worked out by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs were "left behind". It is also quite difficult for a revanchist to understand Lavrov's statement in Baku that the OSCE Minsk Group ceased its activities on the initiative of the West.

Well, I would like to hope that now, after Lavrov’s remark about the death of the negotiating group, Ashotyan and others like him, and most importantly, the head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Mirzoyan, who is constantly voting about the mission of the OSCE Minsk Group, will finally say goodbye to this protracted illusion of his.

The woeful sceptic Ashotyan even wrote out some of Lavrov's "treacherous" terms, which, in his opinion, say that "Russia sold Karabakh to the Turks".

So, Lavrov in Baku did not use the expression "Nagorno-Karabakh", but simply Karabakh, as well as the term "conflict" he expressed as post-conflict settlement and "war" (he noted only well-known events).

Well, this nonsense of Ashotyan, perhaps, is not even worth commenting on. Unless you give a handkerchief - let him finally cry out his revanchist sadness.

Helpless Ashotyan believes that "during this period, the Armenian side again squandered political agreements and mutual understanding with a strategic ally, did not capitalise them thanks to bilateral contacts at the highest and high levels".

It is also worth mentioning the opinion of the editor-in-chief of the Realist news agency Sargis Tsaturyan, filled with poison and anger. Here a different kind of apogee took place. Because, despite all his "pro-Artsakh" nonsense, utterly angry with what Lavrov said, Tsaturyan went so far as to start giving compliments to his eternal enemies - Azerbaijanis and Turks.

"The more I analyse the words of Sergei Lavrov and other Russian officials on the Armenian issue, the more I respect the Turks for their directness and honesty. After all, the Turks do not tell the Armenians that they "saved" them, "provided security", they do not call the Armenians their "allies" and "fraternal people" ... and so on", Tsaturyan hit his brothers and allies.

He believes that, in fact, Lavrov is addressing his statements not even to the Armenians, but to the United States and the European Union, warning them: either the West will make concessions on Ukraine, "or the Kremlin will surrender the remnants of Karabakh to Baku and the Turks".

Precisely, his "non-standard" imagination is an attempt to build a bridge with the US and the EU, which were burned after February 24.

"Building a bridge for someone else is an Armenian handiwork. What about the West? The Biden team did not even have the will to cancel military assistance to Baku. It’s one thing for the West to keep talking about the Minsk Group, but it’s quite another to take real steps that will bring the aggressor and his accomplices to reason," Tsaturyan says.

Indeed, very "bitter" conclusions that express only one thing – Armenian nationalist populism is far from clarity and sincerity of thought and is boundless in its anti-logic and absurd-based philosophy. There is nothing more to add.
