Iceland prepares long-term financial support programme for Ukraine
The government of Iceland is preparing an extensive long-term financial support programme for Ukraine, according to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's video statement.
"There will be more support packages. There was a good summit with the Northern European countries. Our friends, thank you for your support. Strong decisions... Iceland is preparing a significant long-term financial support programme," said the head of state, according to RBC-Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland notes that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by Russia, they have focused on supporting Ukraine according to its wishes and needs.
In December 2022, Iceland provided the Ukrainian military with 12,000 pieces of winter clothing, including socks, thermal pants, merino wool sweaters, headwear, winter gloves, footwear, and outerwear.
It was also reported that Iceland and Estonia jointly delivered a large mobile military hospital to Ukraine.
In addition, in October, the International Fund for Ukraine handed over another aid package with a total value of 1.1 billion Danish kroner (156.5 million dollars). The package includes demining equipment. Iceland has contributed to this fund.
