International travellers visit Azerbaijan's Shusha

16 June 2023 13:58

As part of a four-day tour of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, international travellers visited the city of Shusha.

According to Report, they viewed a number of historical monuments in the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.

The travelers were given detailed information about the history of the city, the vandalism perpetrated here during the Armenian occupation, as well as the restoration and reconstruction work currently underway.

On 14 June, the travellers' four-day trip to Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur began. The delegation will travel along the Aghdam-Terter-Kalbajar-Lachin-Gubadli-Zangilan-Jabrayil-Fuzuli-Khojavand-Shusha route for four days.

The trip is organised by the world-renowned MTP (Most Travelled People).

In the past two years, teams from major international travel networks have visited Karabakh and East Zangazur seven times, including one visit in 2021, four in 2022, and two in 2023.

After the liberated of its lands from Armenia's decades-long occupation in the 2020 war, Azerbaijan used about 60 per cent of the funds worth $1.8 billion intended for construction, restoration, and reconstruction work in Karabakh and East Zangazur in the 2023 state, Azerbaijani Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said earlier.

"Reconstruction of liberated territories is our new mission, and President Ilham Aliyev has mobilised the people of Azerbaijan to implement this mission. That mission consists of the implementation of the Great Return program. As a result, these areas will also be reintegrated into the economy of Azerbaijan. The foundations of large projects are being laid in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, some of these projects have already been completed and put into use," he said.
