BMW uncovers irregularities in exports to Russia, halts shipments
Luxury car manufacturer BMW has revealed that it had discovered discrepancies in exports to Russia from its Hanover branch in Germany.
The company suspended the exports and dismissed those responsible. BMW also confirmed a report by Business Insider, which stated that over 100 premium vehicles had been supplied to Russian customers, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Russia is presently facing a broad set of sanctions from the EU, the US and other entities in reaction to its large-scale invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022. The sale of cars to Russian buyers is under a stringent embargo, which BMW stated it is fully complying with.
The company pointed out that various businesses have found their products being sold in Russia despite adhering to the sanctions, often through "grey imports." BMW emphasised that it is taking various actions to prevent such imports from occurring.
The BMW Group is a global leader in premium cars and motorcycles, housing brands such as BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce, and BMW Motorrad. Vehicles and products are designed to meet customer needs, continually improved with a strong emphasis on sustainability and resource conservation.
