WSJ: Russia outpaces rivals in advanced low-cost weapons production

14 September 2026 09:31

Russia is outpacing its adversaries in the production of modern, precision-guided and relatively inexpensive weapons, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports.

The newspaper noted that Russia has developed a new generation of innovative missile systems, including the new compact Bandеrol cruise missiles and Geran unmanned aerial vehicles. These weapons are equipped with advanced electronics that enable them to accurately identify targets and evade interception.

The publication emphasized that the production of new and relatively inexpensive weapons demonstrates the Russian military’s ability to adapt and develop innovations. Ukraine, meanwhile, lacks the production resources and capacity needed for long-term planning, while the United States and its NATO allies are struggling to increase production of key weapons, such as air-defense missiles for Patriot systems.

Western countries are also facing difficulties in accelerating the transition of innovations from development to mass production.
