Media: Saudi Arabia amends Oman-Iran proposal on Strait of Hormuz

14 September 2026 09:10

Saudi Arabia has amended an Omani-Iranian proposal concerning the Strait of Hormuz, Axios journalist Barak Ravid said in a post on X.

“A senior official in one of the Gulf states told me that Saudi Arabia submitted amendments to the Omani-Iranian proposal regarding the Strait of Hormuz because it was concerned that the proposed wording might effectively establish a new status quo in the strait that would be unacceptable to Riyadh and the other Gulf states.,” Ravid wrote.

A meeting of the foreign ministers of the Gulf states and Iran had been scheduled for September 14. The parties were expected to discuss a draft Omani-Iranian agreement regulating navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Oman’s foreign minister later announced that the meeting had been postponed to allow time to “reach consensus.”
