Israeli army pushes into Lebanon's Al-Khiam, citing Hezbollah threat
Israeli forces have entered the southern Lebanese town of Al-Khiam, according to Lebanese state media, cited by The Times of Israel.
The town, situated roughly six kilometres from the Lebanese-Israeli frontier, has been subjected to sustained artillery shelling, Lebanese state outlets reported, adding that what they described as the “Israeli enemy army” had moved into the area.
A Lebanese source told Agence France-Presse a day earlier that Israel had initiated a ground incursion into a border zone in southern Lebanon, in parallel with an ongoing aerial bombardment campaign.
In response, the Israel Defence Forces said that the deployment of troops deeper into southern Lebanon was “part of reinforced forward defence,” citing continued attacks by Hezbollah as the reason for the move.
