Hamas urges mediators to pressure Israel into Gaza ceasefire

Hamas has called on international mediators to exert direct pressure on Israel to secure a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a senior Hamas source told Al Jazeera.

The source said the movement has contacted the mediators and demanded a clear position regarding the latest escalation by Israeli forces in Gaza.

According to the official, Hamas is seeking direct intervention by the mediators to compel Israel to fully halt military operations.

The source added that the continuation of Israeli attacks threatens the current agreements.

The official noted that they have informed the mediators that the continuation of the campaign is obstructing the implementation of the agreement and negotiations on its timeline.

In January 2025, Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement through mediation by the United States, Egypt and Qatar.

On July 30, 2026, US President Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached providing for the complete disarmament of Hamas.

On August 1 and 2, the Israel Defence Forces reported strikes on Hamas positions, while Al Jazeera, citing hospital sources in Gaza, said at least 19 Palestinians were killed in the Israeli attacks.
