03 August 2026 14:40

Nearly 2,000 deaths were linked to hot weather in Spain in July 2026, according to data from the country's daily mortality monitoring system.

The figure marks a sharp increase from July 2025, when just over 1,000 heat-related deaths were recorded, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Earlier, Spain's meteorological authorities said the first half of 2026 was the warmest in the country in the past 65 years.

June 2026 also ranked as the second-warmest June on record, surpassed only by June 2025, with the average temperature standing 3.2 degrees Celsius above the climatic norm.
