Jordan’s King congratulates Azerbaijan on peace breakthrough with Armenia

11 August 2025 13:08

On August 11, His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan placed a telephone call to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

During the conversation, King Abdullah II extended his congratulations to President Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on the progress made in advancing the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Caliber.Az reports, per local media.

He welcomed the historic outcomes achieved in Washington and expressed optimism that these agreements would pave the way for lasting peace, security, and broad regional cooperation.

President Aliyev thanked the King for his kind words and underscored the significance of the Joint Declaration signed by Azerbaijan and Armenia in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump.

He also highlighted the initialling of the peace agreement and the establishment of formal interstate relations, alongside other key documents, as critical steps toward securing stability in the region.

The President acknowledged the pivotal role played by President Trump in facilitating the normalisation of ties between the two countries.

The leaders also discussed bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Jordan, praising the strong political ties and exchanging views on future cooperation across various sectors.

On August 8, 2025, an initial peace agreement was signed at a summit hosted by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in attendance.

The leaders endorsed a joint declaration featuring a seven-point framework prioritising sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the renunciation of force. Foreign ministers from both countries initialled a draft “Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations,” witnessed by Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio hailed the deal as a historic advance towards lasting peace.

A central element of the agreement is the creation of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), also known as the Zangezur Corridor — a transit route through Armenia’s Syunik province linking mainland Azerbaijan to its Nakhchivan exclave.
