Lebanese leadership, UN rep discuss situation on Israeli border
Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri and caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati have met with head of the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL), General Aroldo Lázaro. They focused on the situation on the Lebanese-Israeli border.
Nabih Berri blamed Israel for the escalation of the situation.
“The Israeli enemy has crossed the line. Over and over again it attacks civilians, journalists, medical staff, attacks in the depths of southern Lebanon, and threatens Beirut. This increases the chances that Israel will break out a war,” NEWSru.co.il quotes Berri as saying.
“Lebanon stands for the continued presence of UNIFIL and does not interfere in the work of peacekeepers, which is jointly carried out with the Lebanese army. We appreciate your efforts to reduce tensions on the Blue Line, the responsibility of which lies with Israel,” Mikati said.
