Ukraine receives loan from UK, Japan to support social, humanitarian sectors
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said that Ukraine received $1 billion from the UK and Japan under a World Bank Development Policy Loan (DPL), with the funds designated to cover expenses in the social and humanitarian sectors.
"Ukraine has received $1 billion from Japan and the UK. This tranche is guaranteed by the governments of these countries under the World Bank's DPL programme," Shmyhal wrote on Telegram, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The funds will be allocated to strengthen Ukraine's economy and finance priority spending in social and humanitarian areas. Since February 2022, the World Bank has raised over $40 billion for Ukraine to cover social and humanitarian expenses.
Earlier, Shmyhal announced that Ukraine received $1.1 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme to cover critical budgetary expenses.
"Ukraine has received $1.1 billion from the IMF. This is the sixth tranche under the overall programme within the EFF mechanism," Shmyhal said.
The prime minister noted that the funds had already been deposited into Ukrainian accounts and would be allocated to finance critical budgetary needs. To date, Ukraine has received a total of $9.8 billion under this programme. In March 2023, the IMF approved a four-year programme for Ukraine with financing amounting to $15.6 billion.
