Russia's Rosatom completes reactor building excavation in Uzbekistan

02 September 2026 18:19

Workers in Uzbekistan have fully completed excavation of the foundation pit for the reactor building of the integrated nuclear power plant being built by Russia’s Rosatom, according to the press service of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The press service said during the excavation, more than 1 million cubic metres of soil were removed, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The small-scale nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region is expected to generate contracts for Russian companies worth up to 2 trillion roubles ($24.7 billion), according to project estimates.

Recently, Alexey Likhachev, Chief Executive of Rosatom, said the project represents a unique approach in global nuclear construction and could be replicated internationally.
