Zelenskyy names new commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Brigadier General Sviatoslav Zaiets as commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In his new role, Zaiets will oversee the Ground Forces and be responsible for organizing and ensuring the execution of tasks assigned to the branch of the Ukrainian military, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.

Before his appointment, Zaiets commanded the 20th Army Corps. He previously led the 79th Air Assault Brigade, which held the defence of Marinka for an extended period under his command. He also served as deputy commander of the 7th Air Assault Corps.

A career military officer, Zaiets served with the 19th Missile Brigade in 2019. Former subordinates have described him as a fair commander who is capable of supporting troops in difficult situations.
