Slovenian parliament strips ex-PM of immunity over corruption allegations

Slovenia’s parliament unanimously voted to strip former Prime Minister and opposition Freedom Movement leader Robert Golob of parliamentary immunity over alleged “corrupt actions.”

According to the Delo newspaper, 75 lawmakers voted in favour of lifting his immunity, with none voting against.

“In any case, I want this situation to be resolved as soon as possible. I never intended to use parliamentary immunity,” Golob wrote on Instagram.

The first allegations against Golob were made by former Slovenian Interior Minister Tatjana Bobnar, who accused him of political pressure and bribery aimed at securing personnel changes within the ministry. The former prime minister could face up to six years in prison over the allegations.
