Italy emerges as top spot for family vacations in 2025
Proceeding from its article, Travel + Leisure features that Italy is not only a cultural and culinary haven but also a top destination for family vacations.
Italy, with its rich cultural heritage, renowned cuisine, and historic cities, has always been a beloved destination for travelers. However, it's often not considered a prime spot for family vacations. According to the 2025 Virtuoso Luxe Report, which surveys 2,200 international travel advisors to highlight emerging trends, Italy has claimed the top spot as the best family travel destination in the world.
While Italy is often seen as the perfect place for a romantic escape, it offers plenty for families as well. In Tuscany, for example, families can immerse themselves in Renaissance art and architecture amid the picturesque countryside. The region boasts over 100 wineries, many of which offer family-friendly experiences like grape stomping, petting zoos, and "treasure hunts" to keep kids entertained while parents sample wines.
Beyond wineries, there’s no shortage of activities for families to enjoy. You can relax in the natural hot springs of Bagni San Filippo or Cascate di Mulino, hike the Elsa Trail to Diborrato Waterfall, or cycle through Tuscany's scenic hills. For a more interactive experience, families can sign up for cooking classes at Mama Florence or Podere II Casale in Siena, where you can prepare traditional Italian dishes together.
Venice, another beloved Italian destination, is also a fantastic choice for families. Parents with children of all ages will find plenty to enjoy, from gondola rides through the city's iconic waterways to tours of the Doge’s Palace, or strolls through the vibrant neighborhoods of Burano. For families with older kids, a glass-making class at a workshop like Ferro Toso is a great option. On Sundays, the Peggy Guggenheim Museum offers free workshops for children, covering topics such as abstract expressionism and artists like French painter Jean Dubuffet. Additionally, don't miss a visit to Caffè Florian, Italy's oldest coffee house, established in 1720 in St. Mark’s Square, where you can enjoy a selection of strong coffees and kid-friendly hot chocolates.
For more family travel ideas, Virtuoso also highlights other top destinations for kids, including Hawaii, Costa Rica, Greece, and Japan.
