CSTO seeks to revive ties with OSCE, secretary general says

15 September 2026 12:26

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) considers it advisable to resume cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), CSTO Secretary General Taalatbek Masadykov said.

Masadykov made the remarks in an article published in National Defence magazine, Caliber.Az reports.

He said the CSTO is focusing on cooperation with traditional international partners, including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), while also developing ties with new organizations, including the African Union.

Masadykov noted that he met with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu in May, adding that the latter expressed readiness to support dialogue between the two organizations.

Regarding relations with NATO, Masadykov said the CSTO maintains a pragmatic approach and does not consider the prospects for dialogue to be exhausted.

Cooperation between the CSTO and OSCE has been suspended since 2022.
