Sohu: Nepal landslide death toll nears 1,400
The death toll from a landslide and subsequent flooding in northern Nepal near the border with China has risen to 1,396, Sohu reports.
The disaster struck on August 26, when a powerful flow of water surged towards the Bhote Koshi River from Chinese territory.
An earthquake and a landslide triggered by the tremors were reported in the area before the flooding.
The Bhote Koshi River runs through northern Nepal near the Chinese border. The disaster affected border areas of both countries.
Sohu provided no further details about the incident. Officials in Nepal and China have not yet released additional information on the reported death toll.
