MP: Azerbaijan not to allow exploitation of Gafan airport
Armenia uses all possible provocations to prevent peace. However, it forgets that Armenians need peace more now, Azerbaijani Parliament’s on Defence, Security and Anti-Corruption Committee Deputy Chairman Hikmat Babaoglu said.
Referring to the issue of Gafan airport, the MP said that since it is surrounded by high peaks of the Lesser Caucasus and these peaks cross the state border of Azerbaijan, planes cannot take off and land at this airport without violating Azerbaijan's airspace, APA reports.
"In Soviet times, because the borders were conditional and common, the violation of some borders by aircraft was not considered a serious violation of the border. But now we are talking about two countries that are independent and at war because of Armenia's anti-peace policy.
Moreover, it is clear to everyone that Armenia will transport various types of weapons and ammunition to our borders through this airport and will do everything possible to use it as a military airfield. Therefore, Armenians should regulate by a special agreement between neighbouring countries the issues related to border airports, just as it is done in Europe. Otherwise, an airport not coordinated with Azerbaijan cannot function at all. Azerbaijan will not allow the operation of such a facility that threatens its security,” he said.
