Omani FM: Next round of US-Iran nuclear talks scheduled for June 15
The sixth round of talks between the US and Iran on the nuclear dossier will be held in Muscat on June 15, said Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, who is acting as a mediator in the negotiation process.
“I am pleased to confirm the 6th round of Iran US talks will be held in Muscat this Sunday the 15th,” he wrote on X, as per Caliber.Az.
Recall that the fifth round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the United States concluded on May 23, 2025, in Rome, with Oman's Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi reporting "some but not conclusive progress". The discussions, mediated by Oman, primarily focused on Iran's uranium enrichment activities, a central point of contention.
Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, described the negotiations as "complicated," highlighting the challenges in reconciling Tehran's insistence on continuing its nuclear program with U.S. demands for a halt to enrichment. While both sides acknowledged limited advancements, key issues remain unresolved.
The US has proposed a new nuclear agreement, including a complete cessation of uranium enrichment, which Iran has labelled "unacceptable." A senior Iranian official criticised the U.S. proposal as "incoherent and disjointed," casting doubt on the prospects for a sixth round of talks.
In a recent interview, President Donald Trump expressed diminished confidence in reaching a new deal with Iran, citing Tehran's lack of cooperation. He reiterated that the US will not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, emphasising a preference for peaceful resolution but warning of potential military action if diplomacy fails.
