St. Petersburg to host talks on creation of Turkish gas hub
The visit of the Turkish delegation to St. Petersburg to discuss the roadmap for the gas hub will take place in the first half of December.
An unnamed source in Ankara made the announcement in a response to RIA Novosti, Report informs.
Earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that a Turkish delegation plans to arrive in St. Petersburg to familiarise itself with the developments on the roadmap for the gas hub project.
"Yes, there is indeed such an idea. We have expressed such an intention in negotiations with our Russian colleagues. So far, coordination is underway, but tentatively, it will be the first half of December," the source said.
For the record, Moscow and Ankara are set to reach an agreement on the creation of a natural gas hub in Türkiye soon.
In 2022, Russia proposed setting up a gas hub in Türkiye as Moscow worked to reroute its energy exports after European countries sharply cut their imports from Russia in response to its actions in Ukraine.
On November 25, 2023, the Turkish capital Ankara hosted the 18th meeting of the joint intergovernmental Russian-Turkish Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation. Novak led the Russian delegation, while Trade Minister Omer Bolat headed the Turkish delegation.
