Turkish FM warns Russia's Lavrov of global war threat amid conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza
On November 23, 2024, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed bilateral relations between and regional issues in a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
During the call, Fidan reiterated concerns over the global risks arising from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
He emphasized that arms supplies to Ukraine from the US and Europe have escalated the situation, potentially leading to what could be described as a global war.
Türkiye has been consistently warning about the risks of such a conflict, which Russian President Vladimir Putin has also highlighted. Fidan pointed out that the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza are deepening fault lines, driving certain global players into opposing camps and exacerbating polarization.
In a related statement, on November 22, Hakan Topkurulu, deputy chairman of Türkiye's Vatan Party, commented on President Putin's remarks regarding Russia's use of a hypersonic missile in non-nuclear mode against Ukraine. Topkurulu suggested that these statements serve as a serious warning to the West.
Earlier this week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called for both Russia and Ukraine to focus on peace efforts in order to de-escalate the crisis.
