COP29 reaches final stage with key documents up for adoption

The 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP19), and the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA6) has reached its climactic moment. 

During the closing plenary session, Mukhtar Babayev, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources and COP29 President, announced the forthcoming adoption of draft decisions and final documents, marking the culmination of two weeks of intensive negotiations, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

"We have been working hard for a fortnight now, and no one wants to leave the event without achieving substantial results on the main objectives," Babayev declared. "The world's attention is focused on us. However, time is not on our side. Therefore, I call for increased cooperation."

Reflecting on the urgency of the moment, he reassured participants of his continued commitment: "My team and I will continue to work with you over the coming hours. The decisions and results to be taken by the COP are now to be evaluated. I will also inform the results of the consultations led by the presidency."

In a notable gesture, Babayev proposed a draft resolution to express official gratitude to Azerbaijan for hosting COP29 with exceptional organization and efficiency. The resolution was put to a vote and received unanimous approval, earning a formal acknowledgement of Azerbaijan's efforts in facilitating the high-level discussions.

As the session draws to a close, the spotlight remains on the decisions adopted, which will shape the global climate agenda for years to come.
