Sweden open to transfer Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine
Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson has said that Sweden is considering the possibility of transferring a certain number of its tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The country is preparing another aid package for Ukraine to help the country fight off the Russian invasion, according to mil.in.
Currently, the Swedish military has 120 Stridsvagn 122 tanks in service. This is the Swedish version of the German Leopard 2A5 main battle tank.
Jonson noted that the Swedish parliament is increasingly inclined to provide Ukraine with some of 120 tanks it has.
“We are open to that, and we are in close dialogue with, above all, Germany about it,” the minister said.
Sweden has already delivered a number of military and humanitarian aid packages to Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
