US sends Ukraine third of stocks of Javelin anti-tank systems
The United States has sent so many Javelin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine that they are running low for possible domestic use.
Replenishing American stocks of new weapons will take years, CNN reports.
“Military planners are probably getting nervous. The United States is holding stockpiles for various possible global conflicts that could occur against North Korea, Iran, or Russia itself. At some point, these stocks will drop so low that military planners will doubt that military plans can be carried out. The US is probably approaching that moment,” said Mark Kansian, senior adviser to the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
According to him, between 20,000 and 25,000 Javelins could remain in warehouses, and the 7,000 systems sent to Ukraine "account for about a third of the total US stocks."
“It will take about 3-4 years to replace the missiles delivered to date. If the United States supplies more missiles to Ukraine, it will take longer to replace this time,” Kansian said.
