US, UK officials arrive in Ukraine to assess battlefield situation
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has arrived in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv alongside UK's Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
This marks the first joint visit of top diplomats in recent years, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
The officials arrived at Kyiv's central railway station by train from Poland. During his visit to Kyiv, Blinken plans to assess the situation on the battlefield and discuss Ukraine's needs for the coming weeks and months, taking into account the approaching winter, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby said during an online briefing.
Kirby stated that the US Secretary of State will reaffirm US support for Ukraine’s efforts to defend itself and reclaim territory seized by Russia. He also mentioned that discussions in Kyiv will include advancing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace proposals.
"Of course, negotiating an end to the conflict is the most likely outcome. But when this will happen, and under what conditions and circumstances, will be determined by President Zelenskyy," Kirby added. Additionally, Blinken and Lammy are expected to meet with Ukrainian officials.
