"Her visits remind me of releasing the dragon" Giorgi Saralidze on Pelosi's upcoming trip to Yerevan

16 September 2022 19:35

TV and radio hosts Dmitriy Kulikov and Georgy Saralidze on the air of the "Formula of Meaning" talk show on Solovyov Live channel this morning discussed the theme of the dismantlement of post-Soviet space this year, which was especially heightened at the beginning of autumn when Armenia committed a large-scale military provocation against Azerbaijan and gunfire resumed on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Dmitry Kulikov first of all recalled a 2019 report by the US organisation RAND Corporation, which contained a large-scale programme to undermine stability in the post-Soviet space. "Literally, the goals written there were the intensification of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict - it was directly stated there, verbatim. And it was all published in 2019 - both Central Asia and Transcaucasia," he reported.

Due to Donald Trump's rise to power, the programme was postponed until 2020, but it is now being implemented in full. For example, the US has become extremely active with Armenia. "I see Nancy Pelosi is suddenly going to Armenia for some reason, arriving this weekend. This is being kept somewhat secret, with reports only referring to sources. Blinken is also active there," Dmitry Kulikov pointed out.

"Blinken called Pashinyan and offered him US assistance in the peaceful settlement of the conflict that exists between Armenia and Azerbaijan," Giorgi Saralidze clarified.

"I don't remember anything about the US settling any conflicts in modern history and a little bit further. Of course, they will use all this. And I think in this situation the meeting of SCO heads of states in Samarkand is very important. The issue of Eurasian space stabilization should be the responsibility of the SCO. Look: Iran, India, China, Russia, Pakistan - in fact, half of this space. It is necessary to agree together," Dmitry Kulikov urged.

Giorgi Saralidze pointed out one peculiarity of the current SCO summit. "Both Turkish President Erdogan and Azerbaijani President Aliyev were invited and arrived. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was supposed to come. In the end, Pashinyan refused to go, citing tensions in Armenia," he said.

"It's a pity, of course, that he did not come. But looking at what is happening in Yerevan - I will be very careful in my judgment - but those riots and protests, almost uprising, he has an excuse. But at the same time, it is a pity that he did not end up in Samarkand," Dmitry Kulikov noted.

"Of course. Because it was possible to talk directly (to Ilham Aliyev - ed.). When there is an opportunity directly, especially with the main mediator, Russia, which is also present there, to talk to all the actors about what is happening - both Erdogan and Aliyev - to miss such an opportunity, in my opinion, should have been regrettable. But unfortunately, it happened, and I also see the work of our enemies in that, of course. Especially if we take into account both Blinken's call and the unexpected (information of Nancy Pelosi's visit to Yerevan - Ed. note). Pelosi's visits remind me of releasing the dragon", Giorgi Saralidze said.

Dimitry Kulikov specified that Pelosi is a status provocateur. Giorgi Saralidze added that there's no expectation that anything constructive will happen with her appearance anywhere. In Armenia as well.
