Georgian security services comment on multiple bomb threats made on Tbilisi malls
Georgia’s state security services are investigating another instance of false bomb threats.
This was confirmed by the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) in a statement to a Georgian public media outlet, Caliber.Az reports citing Sputnik Georgia, without providing further details on the false information.
Earlier on May 7, the US Embassy issued a statement saying it had received information about a potential bomb threat at three central shopping malls in Tbilisi.
According to the embassy, the affected locations are:
-
East Point Shopping Mall (on Aleksandre Tvalchrelidze Street),
-
Galleria Tbilisi (on Rustaveli Avenue),
-
Tbilisi Shopping Area (at Agmashenebeli Alley).
The Regional Security Office of the embassy has advised all embassy personnel to avoid these locations until further notice.
In Georgia, issuing a false terrorism alert is a criminal offence punishable by up to 9 years in prison.
