Hermitage named Russia’s most popular landmark and largest museum
The State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg has received two major distinctions, topping national rankings for both the most popular landmark and the country’s largest museum. It has also been officially included in the Record Map of the mapping service 2GIS.
According to the museum’s press service, experts analysed millions of search queries and user interactions across Russia to determine the rankings.
The Hermitage emerged as the winner in the categories “Most Popular Landmark” and “Largest Museum in the Country.”
Statistics from the mapping service showed that, among Russia’s prominent historical, cultural and tourist sites, the Hermitage was the location users most frequently searched for, used to plan routes and interacted with online.
The recognition formally establishes the St. Petersburg museum as the largest cultural venue in the Russian Federation, according to the service.
