Russia, Iran put Strait of Hormuz shipping under spotlight
Russia and Iran have discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, with particular attention to shipping conditions in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Georgy Borisеnko held talks with Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali at the ambassador’s request, according to the ministry.
The officials exchanged views on the broader regional situation and developments affecting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international waterway for global energy shipments.
“In particular, an exchange of views took place on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz area, taking into account the Iranian-Omani agreement on the rules governing navigation through this strategically important waterway,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
